100 Days Of Conflict, 1 In 100 Dead: Hill Harper Reiterates Call For A Ceasefire

DETROIT, MI — U.S. Senate candidate Hill Harper reiterated his call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, issuing the following statement:

“Gaza and my hometown of Detroit share a similarity in size, each spanning about 140 square miles. It’s heart-wrenching to even begin to imagine what it would be like if one out of every hundred people in Detroit were lost to the relentless shadow of war. This agonizing tragedy is the reality in Gaza. War, with its indiscriminate appetite, devours the innocent and leaves communities in ruins. In three months, 1 out of every 100 people in Gaza has been killed. The ongoing violence in Gaza must cease.

“Let me be very clear: calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire is not ignoring or absolving the horrors of terrorism, nor the vile rise of Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and Anti-Palestinian racism globally. Wrong is wrong. And the death of 1 in 100 is wrong. My heart breaks for every life lost in this conflict.

“We must fiercely advocate for the protection of civilian lives. We have a moral obligation to raise our voices until they are heard in the halls of power, demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire. Let us unite, for the sake of humanity, to end this cycle of suffering. The time for action is now – not next week, next month, or next year. Let our call be clear and resounding: Stop the war. Protect the innocent. Pursue peace. Permanent ceasefire. In the words of Dr. King, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ We cannot rest until justice and peace prevails in every corner of our world where conflicts rage, but especially in Gaza where 1 in 100 lives have already been extinguished.”
